1. RPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate)
1. Health product packaging
Food-grade RPET is widely used in Europe and the United States (FDA/EFSA certification is required). The core scenario is transparent display health products (such as vitamin bottles), which utilizes the high transparency and oxygen barrier properties of RPET while meeting environmental protection needs.
2. Food packaging
The EU will require bottled water to contain 30% RPET in 2023, and the US FDA allows RPET to be used in bottled water, juice, etc. (challenging decontamination experiments must be passed). Typical case: Danone Evian bottles contain 50% RPET, which is recycled at the original level through chemical recycling technology.
2. RHDPE (recycled high-density polyethylene)
1. Health care product packaging:
Pharmaceutical-grade standard RHDPE needs to pass strict purification
Core advantages: Moisture resistance is better than RPET, suitable for products that are easy to absorb moisture, such as fish oil and calcium tablets, and the opaque nature is naturally light-proof, which meets the storage requirements of health care products
2. Food packaging:
Restricted scenarios: Only dry foods (such as nut bags) and non-fat liquids (such as milk) are allowed, and oil-containing foods (such as salad dressing) must be ≤10% recycled materials.
The US FDA allows it to be used in infant milk powder cans (need to be lined with aluminum film for penetration prevention). Core scenarios: high-turnover, low-pollution food packaging, such as mineral water barrels and bread trays.
4. Summary: Compliance first, environmental protection driven
The application of recycled materials is based on safety certification (such as FDA, YBB standards). Companies need to pay attention to the technical migration from pharmaceutical grade to food grade, as well as consumers' willingness to pay for environmentally friendly packaging.
