The first step is to look at the packaging. Real honey usually has:

Ingredients: Pure honey should have only one ingredient-"honey."

Origin: Authentic brands often specify the country of origin and may mention whether it's raw or organic.

Certifications: Labels such as USDA Organic, ISO, or local food safety certifications increase the chances of authenticity.

If the honey has added sugars, high fructose corn syrup, or flavorings, it's not pure.

 

2. Observe the Texture and Thickness

Genuine honey tends to be thick and viscous. When you tilt the jar, real honey flows slowly, unlike fake honey which is runnier because of added water or sugar syrups.

A quick test:

Dip a spoon into the honey and let it drip. Real honey will fall in a continuous stream and form a small mound before blending, while fake honey often drips too quickly.

 

3. Color and Crystallization

Heat Test: When heated, real honey caramelizes quickly, while fake honey produces bubbles because of added moisture.
